Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in vllm-project vLLM up to 0.29.x. Affected is an unknown functionality of the file /inference/v1/generate of the component Multimodal Position Construction. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
vLLM from 0.20.0 before 0.30.0 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows remote attackers to crash the engine by sending inconsistent multimodal metadata to the disaggregated /inference/v1/generate endpoint. Attackers can replay a valid multimodal item with repeated or overlapping mm_placeholders ranges or mismatched kwargs_data and mm_hashes lists, producing a negative text span in Qwen2.5-VL position construction that terminates the engine.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-116178 since 10/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy.
