Details
A vulnerability has been found in Rclone up to 1.75.1 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Multipart. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
rclone serve s3 versions 1.75.0 before 1.75.2 contain an integer overflow vulnerability in multipart reorder-memory accounting that bypasses the configured buffer limit. Attackers can open two concurrent current-part PUT requests declaring huge lengths to wrap the signed int64 counter and retain out-of-order parts in memory, exhausting the host.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-116188 since 10/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
