Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in boneIO up to 1.5.99. This affects an unknown code block of the component Management Web API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

boneIO Black firmware ships with authentication disabled by default. Its management web API listens on all network interfaces and exposes all endpoints without requiring credentials. An unauthenticated remote attacker can fully control the device, causing denial of service, modifying configuration, and operating connected physical circuits. This issue was fixed in version 1.6.0: a device without an administrator account refuses API requests until the owner creates one in the first-run wizard, and every API route is restricted to an authenticated role. Versions before 1.2.0 are based on Debian 10, are no longer supported and cannot be upgraded in place; affected devices should be re-flashed with the 1.6.0 system image.

It is possible to read the advisory at cert.pl. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-77053 since 08/20/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/26/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 1.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
