A vulnerability has been found in Exiv2 0.16 (Image Processing Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function rationalvalue::tolong of the component Pretty Printing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Exiv2 0.16 allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero and application crash) via a zero value in Nikon lens information in the metadata of an image, related to "pretty printing" and the RationalValue::toLong function.
The bug was discovered 06/06/2008. The weakness was presented 06/13/2008 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-2696 since 06/13/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
