A vulnerability was found in Graphviz 1.10 2003-09-15 0415 1. It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function push_subg in the library lib/graph/parser.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Stack-based buffer overflow in the push_subg function in parser.y (lib/graph/parser.c) in Graphviz 2.20.2, and possibly earlier versions, allows user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or execute arbitrary code via a DOT file with a large number of Agraph_t elements.
The weakness was published 10/14/2008 by Roee Hay as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-4555 since 10/14/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation requires a single authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
