Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Eclipse Che up to 7.122.0. Affected is an unknown part of the component che-machine-exec. The manipulation of the argument username/namespace with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The che-machine-exec service constructs a shell command by concatenating user-controlled input (the username and namespace fields from the /exec/init and /exec/config JSON endpoints) into a double-quoted sh -c "echo "..." > ..." invocation without any escaping. When che-machine-exec is run with authentication disabled (its default), any network-reachable attacker can achieve remote code execution in containers che-machine-exec is configured to access, via shell command substitution ($(...) or backticks).
