Details
A vulnerability was found in Kubeflow Pipelines up to 2.16.x and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component API Server. The manipulation of the argument page_token/KeyFieldName/SortByFieldName with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Kubeflow Pipelines enables users to build and deploy portable, scalable machine learning workflows. Prior to 2.17.0, the API server trusts structural SQL identifier fields decoded from the base64-encoded JSON page_token parameter before constructing list queries. An attacker who can invoke an affected pipeline or run list API can inject through KeyFieldName or SortByFieldName, including v1beta1 and v2beta1 run-listing metric paths, and read data available to the API server database account across namespaces. Database modification is not established. This issue is fixed in version 2.17.0.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-88985 since 09/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1055 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 2.17.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
