A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Joomla CMS up to 1.5.6 (Content Management System). Affected by this issue is the function mt_rand of the component Password Reset. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-189. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Joomla! 1.5 before 1.5.7 initializes PHP s PRNG with a weak seed, which makes it easier for attackers to guess the pseudo-random values produced by PHP s mt_rand function, as demonstrated by guessing password reset tokens, a different vulnerability than CVE-2008-3681.
The weakness was shared 09/18/2008 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2008-4102 since 09/15/2008.
