A vulnerability was found in Joomla CMS up to 1.5.6 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function JRequest::setVar. JRequest in Joomla! 1.5 before 1.5.7 does not sanitize variables that were set with JRequest::setVar, which allows remote attackers to conduct "variable injection" attacks and have unspecified other impact.
The weakness was disclosed 09/18/2008 (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4105 since 09/15/2008. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Upgrading to version 1.5.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
