A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Canonical Linux 6.06/7.04/7.10/8.04. This issue affects the function nsContentList::Item of the component Layout Engine. The manipulation of the argument this with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-399. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Mozilla Firefox 3.x before 3.0.2 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors related to the layout engine and (1) a zero value of the "this" variable in the nsContentList::Item function; (2) interaction of the indic IME extension, a Hindi language selection, and the "g" character; and (3) interaction of the nsFrameList::SortByContentOrder function with a certain insufficient protection of inline frames.

The bug was discovered 09/23/2008. The weakness was presented 09/24/2008 by Georgi Guninski (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-4063 since 09/12/2008. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
