The bug was discovered 09/23/2008. The weakness was published 09/24/2008 by Georgi Guninski (moz_bug_r_a4) with Martijn Wargers (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2008-4065 since 09/12/2008. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 1.5 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9130.
