Unspecified vulnerability in the tape engine service in asdbapi.dll in CA ARCserve Backup (formerly BrightStor ARCserve Backup) r11.1 through r12.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a crafted request.

The bug was discovered 10/09/2008. The weakness was disclosed 10/14/2008 by eEye Digital Security with eEye Digital Security (Website). The advisory is available at support.ca.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-4398 since 10/02/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
