Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9 does not properly use the Content-Disposition HTTP header to control rendering of the HTTP response body, which allows remote attackers to read content from a different (1) domain or (2) zone via a crafted web site, aka "Content-Disposition Information Disclosure Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 12/13/2011 as MS11-099 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated with Microsoft. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-3404 since 09/09/2011. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a private exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57285 (MS11-099: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (2618444)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100114 (Microsoft Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (MS11-099)).
Applying the patch KB2618444 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
