Details
A vulnerability has been found in IBM WebSphere Application Server (Application Server Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
PerfServlet in the PMI/Performance Tools component in IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 7 before 7.0.0.1 allows attackers to obtain sensitive information by reading the (1) systemout.log and (2) ffdc files. NOTE: this is probably a duplicate of CVE-2009-0434.
The bug was discovered 02/06/2009. The weakness was shared 12/09/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-5413 since 12/09/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 35082 (IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0 < Fix Pack 1), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers and running in the context r. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 87028 (IBM WebSphere Application Server PerfServlet Information Disclosure (PK75960)).
Upgrading to version 7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (47267), Tenable (35082), SecurityFocus (BID 32679†), OSVDB (52595†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-20216†). The entries VDB-46586, VDB-46463, VDB-46459 and VDB-45365 are related to this item. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
