A vulnerability has been found in HP OpenView Network Node Manager 7.51 (Network Management Software) and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing in the library ov.dll of the file OpenView5.exe of the component Node Manager. The manipulation of the argument string with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in HP OpenView Network Node Manager (OV NNM) 7.01, 7.51, and 7.53 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) long string parameters to the OpenView5.exe CGI program; (2) a long string parameter to the OpenView5.exe CGI program, related to ov.dll; or a long string parameter to the (3) getcvdata.exe, (4) ovlaunch.exe, or (5) Toolbar.exe CGI program.
The weakness was shared 01/08/2009 with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-0067 since 01/03/2008. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
