The extension implementation in Google Chrome before 17.0.963.46 does not properly handle sandboxed origins, which might allow remote attackers to bypass the Same Origin Policy via a crafted extension.

The weakness was published 02/08/2012 by Collin Payne (miaubiz) with Chromium Development Community (Website). The advisory is shared at oval.mitre.org. The public release has been coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-3956 since 10/01/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
