A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Google Chrome 16.0.912.77 (Web Browser). This affects an unknown code block of the component Path Clipping. Google Chrome before 17.0.963.46 does not properly perform path clipping, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was released 02/08/2012 by Collin Payne (miaubiz) with Chromium Development Community (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oval.mitre.org. The public release was coordinated with Google. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2011-3962 since 10/01/2011. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 17.0.963.46 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at code.google.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
