Microsoft Office Visio 2002 SP2, 2003 SP3, and 2007 SP1 does not properly validate object data in Visio files, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted file, aka "Memory Validation Vulnerability."

The bug was discovered 02/10/2009. The weakness was released 02/10/2009 by Bing Liu with Fortinet (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-0095 since 01/08/2009. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6785.
