A vulnerability was found in phpMyAdmin (Database Administration Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Replication Setup. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the replication-setup functionality in js/replication.js in phpMyAdmin 3.4.x before 3.4.10.1 allows user-assisted remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a crafted database name.
The weakness was published 02/19/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at freecode.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-1190 since 02/17/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74557 (openSUSE Security Update : phpMyAdmin (openSUSE-2012-135)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12545 (phpMyAdmin Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability (PMASA-2012-1)).
Upgrading to version 3.4.10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
