libxml2 before 2.8.0 computes hash values without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via crafted XML data.
The weakness was released 02/21/2012 by Juraj Somorovsky (Website). The advisory is shared at debian.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-0841 since 01/19/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
