PostgreSQL up to 9.1.2 pg_dump sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in PostgreSQL (Database Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component pg_dump. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

CRLF injection vulnerability in pg_dump in PostgreSQL 8.3.x before 8.3.18, 8.4.x before 8.4.11, 9.0.x before 9.0.7, and 9.1.x before 9.1.3 allows user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via a crafted file containing object names with newlines, which are inserted into an SQL script that is used when the database is restored.

The weakness was released 02/27/2012 (Website). The advisory is available at postgresql.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-0868 since 01/19/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69689 (Amazon Linux AMI : postgresql8 (ALAS-2012-82)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350665 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for postgresql8: ALAS-2012-082).

Upgrading to version 9.1.3, 9.0.7, 8.4.11, 8.3.18 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
