Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.7, Thunderbird before 2.0.0.21, and SeaMonkey before 1.1.15 decode invisible characters when they are displayed in the location bar, which causes an incorrect address to be displayed and makes it easier for remote attackers to spoof URLs and conduct phishing attacks.
The bug was discovered 03/04/2009. The weakness was released 03/04/2009 by Georgi Guninski (TippingPoint) with Zero Day Initiative as Bug 452979 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-0777 since 03/03/2009. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Upgrading to version 2.0.0.19 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 6222.
