Buffer overflow in unpack200 in Java SE Development Kit (JDK) and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 17 and earlier, and 6 Update 12 and earlier, allows remote attackers to access files or execute arbitrary code via a JAR file with crafted Pack200 headers.
The weakness was disclosed 03/25/2009 by Gregory Fleischer (regenrecht) (Website). The advisory is shared at sunsolve.sun.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2009-1096 since 03/25/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
