Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in xine xine-lib up to 1.1.16.2 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected is the function parse_trak_atom. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow in the qt_error parse_trak_atom function in demuxers/demux_qt.c in xine-lib 1.1.16.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a Quicktime movie file with a large count value in an STTS atom, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.
The bug was discovered 04/04/2009. The weakness was presented 04/04/2009 by Tobias Klein (Website). The advisory is shared for download at redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-1274 since 04/08/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
