A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Microsoft Data Access Components up to 2.8. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Broadcast Reply Handler. Buffer overflow in a component of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 through 2.8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a malformed UDP response to a broadcast request.
The bug was discovered 01/13/2004. The weakness was presented 01/13/2004 with Microsoft as MS04-003 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2003-0903. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11990 (MS04-003: MDAC Buffer Overflow (832483)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 2329.
