A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Office up to Xp (Office Suite Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown function. Array index error in Excel in Microsoft Office 2000 SP3 and Office 2004 and 2008 for Mac, and Open XML File Format Converter for Mac, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Excel file with a malformed record object, aka "Array Indexing Memory Corruption Vulnerability."

It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110100 (Microsoft Excel Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS09-021)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8209.
