A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 3.0.10 (Web Browser). Affected is the function NPObjWrapper_NewResolve in the library xul.dll of the component Wrapper. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. Race condition in the NPObjWrapper_NewResolve function in modules/plugin/base/src/nsJSNPRuntime.cpp in xul.dll in Mozilla Firefox 3 before 3.0.11 might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a page transition during Java applet loading, related to a use-after-free vulnerability for memory associated with a destroyed Java object.
The bug was discovered 06/12/2009. The weakness was shared 06/12/2009 by Carsten Eiram with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is available at redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-1837 since 05/29/2009. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
