A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in VideoLAN VLC Media Player up to 2.0.1 (Multimedia Player Software). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component Access Plugin. The manipulation as part of a Real RTSP Stream leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Multiple heap-based buffer overflows in VideoLAN VLC media player before 2.0.1 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted Real RTSP stream.

Upgrading to version 2.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
