Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (JON) 3.0.x before 3.0.1, 2.4.2, and earlier, when LDAP authentication is enabled and the LDAP bind account credentials are invalid, allows remote attackers to login to LDAP-based accounts via an arbitrary password in a login request.
The weakness was released 02/28/2012 as Bug 799789 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-1100 since 02/14/2012. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k.
Upgrading to version 3.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch RHSA-2012:0396 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at rhn.redhat.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
