A vulnerability was found in CA ARCserve Backup r12/r15/r16 (Backup Software). It has been declared as critical. CA ARCserve Backup r12.0 through SP2, r12.5 before SP2, r15 through SP1, and r16 before SP1 on Windows allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (service shutdown) via a crafted network request.
The weakness was disclosed 03/20/2012 by Kevin J. Kotas with CA Technologies as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-1662 since 03/13/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
