Microsoft Windows XP Explorer allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a HTML and script in a self-executing folder that references an executable file within the folder, which is automatically executed when a user accesses the folder.

The bug was discovered 01/25/2004. The weakness was released 01/25/2004 by http-equiv with malware.com (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.netsys.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2290 since 08/04/2005. The attack can only be done within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
