A vulnerability has been found in Google chrome 0.2.149.27 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file url_elider.cc of the component Status Bar. The manipulation of the argument href with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Stack-based buffer overflow in chrome/common/gfx/url_elider.cc in Google Chrome 0.2.149.27 and other versions before 0.2.149.29 might allow user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a link target (href attribute) with a large number of path elements, which triggers the overflow when the status bar is updated after the user hovers over the link.
The weakness was shared 09/19/2008 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at src.chromium.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-6998 since 08/17/2009.
