Zend Server 5.6.0 Debugger cross site scripting

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Performing a manipulation results in cross site scripting. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. Furthermore, an exploit is available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Zend Server 5.6.0. It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the component Debugger. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The bug was discovered 02/22/2012. The weakness was published 03/10/2012 by Gjoko Krstic (LiquidWorm) with Zero Science Lab (Website). The advisory is shared at zeroscience.mk. The public release has been coordinated with Zend. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by Gjoko Krstic (LiquidWorm) in HTML and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at zeroscience.mk. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 15 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

Upgrading to version 5.6.0 SP1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (73941), Exploit-DB (18582), SecurityFocus (BID 52397†) and OSVDB (80617†). Similar entries are available at VDB-4960, VDB-4961, VDB-4962 and VDB-4963. Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
