A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome 17.0.963.83 (Web Browser). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component SVG Text Handler. The weakness was disclosed 03/28/2012 by Christian Holler (scarybeasts) with Google Chrome Security Team as 112317 (Website). The advisory is available at code.google.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2011-3059 since 08/09/2011. The attack can be initiated remotely. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 18.0.1025.142 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at trac.webkit.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
