A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in GNOME glib 2.0. Affected by this issue is the function g_file_copy of the component Copy Function. The g_file_copy function in glib 2.0 sets the permissions of a target file to the permissions of a symbolic link (777), which allows user-assisted local users to modify files of other users, as demonstrated by using Nautilus to modify the permissions of the user home directory.

The weakness was published 09/22/2009 as Bug 593406 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.gnome.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-3289. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
