Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x before 3.5.11 and 3.6.x before 3.6.7, Thunderbird 3.0.x before 3.0.6 and 3.1.x before 3.1.1, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.6 permit cross-origin loading of CSS stylesheets even when the stylesheet download has an incorrect MIME type and the stylesheet document is malformed, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a crafted document.
The weakness was released 02/18/2010 as Bug 524223 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-0654. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75669 (openSUSE Security Update : mozilla-xulrunner191 (mozilla-xulrunner191-2779)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
