A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox 3.6 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function gfxTextRun::SanitizeGlyphRuns of the component Browser Engine. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The gfxTextRun::SanitizeGlyphRuns function in gfx/thebes/src/gfxFont.cpp in the browser engine in Mozilla Firefox 3.6 before 3.6.2 on Mac OS X, when the Core Text API is used, does not properly perform certain deletions, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via an HTML document containing invisible Unicode characters, as demonstrated by the U+FEFF, U+FFF9, U+FFFA, and U+FFFB characters.
The weakness was published 03/25/2010 by Jesse Ruderman as Bug 538065 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-0166. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
