A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel 2.6.28.2 (Operating System). This affects the function azx_position_ok of the file hda_intel.c. The azx_position_ok function in hda_intel.c in Linux kernel 2.6.33-rc4 and earlier, when running on the AMD780V chip set, allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via unknown manipulations that trigger a divide-by-zero error.
The issue has been introduced in 12/25/2008. The weakness was disclosed 04/06/2010 as Bug 567168 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-1085. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 467 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
