Multiple heap-based buffer overflows in Adobe Flash Player before 9.0.277.0 and 10.x before 10.1.53.64, and Adobe AIR before 2.0.2.12610, might allow attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors related to malformed (1) GIF or (2) JPEG data.
The weakness was released 06/15/2010 by Nicolas Joly with VUPEN (Website). The advisory is shared for download at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-2167 since 06/07/2010. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 46858 (Adobe AIR < 2.0.2.12610 Multiple Vulnerabilities (ASPB10-14)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165220 (SUSE Security Update for Flash Player (SUSE-SA:2010:024)).
Upgrading to version 9.0.124.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 9397.
