A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Rafael Garcia-suarez Safe up to 2.24. Affected is the function Safe::reval of the component Access Restriction. The Safe (aka Safe.pm) module before 2.25 for Perl allows context-dependent attackers to bypass intended (1) Safe::reval and (2) Safe::rdo access restrictions, and inject and execute arbitrary code, via vectors involving implicitly called methods and implicitly blessed objects, as demonstrated by the (a) DESTROY and (b) AUTOLOAD methods, related to "automagic methods."
The weakness was disclosed 06/21/2010 as Bug 576508 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-1168. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68047 (Oracle Linux 3 / 4 : perl (ELSA-2010-0457)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 216027 (VMware ESX 4.0 Third Party Updates for Service Console (VMSA-2010-0013)).
Upgrading to version 2.23 eliminates this vulnerability.
