Blueriver Sava CMS up to 5.2 fileManager.cfc FILEID path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Blueriver Sava CMS up to 5.2 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown code block of the file fileManager.cfc. The manipulation of the argument FILEID with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in fileManager.cfc in Mura CMS 5.1 before 5.1.498 and 5.2 before 5.2.2809, and Sava CMS 5 through 5.2, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the FILEID parameter to the default URI under tasks/render/file/.

The weakness was shared 09/24/2010 by Steven Seeley (mr_me) (Website). The advisory is shared for download at getmura.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3468. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

A public exploit has been developed by mr_me and been published 2 days after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49700 (Mura CMS FILEID Parameter Directory Traversal), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.

A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (15120), Tenable (49700), SecurityFocus (BID 43499†), OSVDB (68243†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-27376†). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
