A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Jasig phpCAS. Affected is the function callback of the file client.php. The manipulation of the argument (PGTiou) with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in phpCAS before 1.1.3, when proxy mode is enabled, allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) a crafted Proxy Granting Ticket IOU (PGTiou) parameter to the callback function in client.php, (2) vectors involving functions that make getCallbackURL calls, or (3) vectors involving functions that make getURL calls.
The weakness was presented 10/07/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at issues.jasig.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3690. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
By approaching the search of inurl:client.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 50028 (Fedora 13 : php-pear-CAS-1.1.3-1.fc13 (2010-15943)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 0.4.21 eliminates this vulnerability.
