A vulnerability was found in Jasig phpCAS and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function callback of the file client.php. The manipulation of the argument (PGTiou) with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the callback function in client.php in phpCAS before 1.1.3, when proxy mode is enabled, allows remote attackers to create or overwrite arbitrary files via directory traversal sequences in a Proxy Granting Ticket IOU (PGTiou) parameter.
The weakness was published 10/07/2010 (Website). The advisory is available at issues.jasig.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-3692. The exploitation is known to be easy.
