Microsoft Excel 2002 SP3 and Office 2004 for Mac do not properly validate record information, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Excel document, aka "Merge Cell Record Pointer Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 10/13/2010 with VUPEN (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3237. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
