A vulnerability was found in Poppler (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function Gfx::getPos. The Gfx::getPos function in the PDF parser in xpdf before 3.02pl5, poppler 0.8.7 and possibly other versions up to 0.15.1, CUPS, kdegraphics, and possibly other products allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via unknown vectors that trigger an uninitialized pointer dereference.
The weakness was shared 11/05/2010 as Bug 595245 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-3702. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68110 (Oracle Linux 5 : poppler (ELSA-2010-0749)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 390015 (Oracle VM Server for x86 Security Update for poppler (OVMSA-2017-0147)).
Upgrading to version 0.14.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
