Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Mozilla Firefox (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown code of the component LiveConnect. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.16 and 3.6.x before 3.6.13, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.11, does not properly handle certain redirections involving data: URLs and Java LiveConnect scripts, which allows remote attackers to start processes, read arbitrary local files, and establish network connections via vectors involving a refresh value in the http-equiv attribute of a META element, which causes the wrong security principal to be used.
The weakness was published 12/10/2010 by Gregory Fleischer as Bug 611897 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3775. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
