The NS_SecurityCompareURIs function in netwerk/base/public/nsNetUtil.h in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.16 and 3.6.x before 3.6.13, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.11, does not properly handle (1) about:neterror and (2) about:certerror pages, which allows remote attackers to spoof the location bar via a crafted web site.

The weakness was shared 12/10/2010 by Michal Zalewski as Bug 602780 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.mozilla.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3774. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 51777 (CentOS 4 : firefox (CESA-2010:0966)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks.
