A vulnerability was found in MySQL up to 5.1.25 (Database Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function Item_singlerow_subselect::store. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Oracle MySQL 5.1 before 5.1.49 and 5.0 before 5.0.92 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (mysqld daemon crash) by using EXPLAIN with crafted "SELECT ... UNION ... ORDER BY (SELECT ... WHERE ...)" statements, which triggers a NULL pointer dereference in the Item_singlerow_subselect::store function.
