Sun OpenOffice up to 3.2.1 path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Sun OpenOffice. It has been declared as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing. Such manipulation leads to path traversal. This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2010-3450. There is no available exploit. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Sun OpenOffice (Office Suite Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in OpenOffice.org (OOo) 2.x and 3.x before 3.3 allow remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in an entry in (1) an XSLT JAR filter description file, (2) an Extension (aka OXT) file, or unspecified other (3) JAR or (4) ZIP files.

The weakness was presented 01/26/2011 by Dan Rosenberg with Red Hat as Bug 602324 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-3450. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68189 (Oracle Linux 4 : openoffice.org (ELSA-2011-0181)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 155557 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Update for OpenOffice.org and OpenOffice.org2 (ELSA-2011-0181)).

Upgrading to version 2.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (68189), SecurityFocus (BID 46031†), OSVDB (70711†), SecurityTracker (ID 1025002†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-29394†).
