A vulnerability has been found in SMC Networks Smcd3g-ccr Firmware up to 1.4.0.41 (Firmware Software) and classified as critical. A certain Comcast Business Gateway configuration of the SMC SMCD3G-CCR with firmware before 1.4.0.49.2 has a default password of D0nt4g3tme for the mso account, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain administrative access via the (1) web interface or (2) TELNET interface.
The weakness was released 02/08/2011 by Trustwave's SpiderLabs with Trustwave's SpiderLabs (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at trustwave.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2011-0885. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1552 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by Trustwave's SpiderLabs and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading to version 1.4.0.42 eliminates this vulnerability.
